PCB Design Engineer

The role:

Will involve interpreting schematics and layout of multi-layer PCB’s, adhering to strict layout rules for signal integrity, power delivery, reliability, and manufacturability. The PCB designer will be expected to work closely with the engineering design department working often as a team on circuit schematics, discussing complex layout sections, signal integrity simulation and reviewing layout for safety and EMC compliance standards. The role will also involve editing circuit schematics for manufacturing teams, compiling bill of material data for PCB’s, preparing quotes, processing and creating manufacturing data for PCB orders.

Candidates will require the following experience:

Essential

· Degree level Qualification OR significant experience in engineering, with strong emphasis on power electronics.

· Good experience of CAD PCB layout and schematic capture tools (Altium or similar packages a major advantage). Analogue, digital and mixed-signal PCB layout.

· Knowledge of high power PCB layout requirements and regulatory certification at PCBA and product levels, including EMC/ESD.

· Knowledge and experience of working to EN 61800 and related subsections an absolute requirement.

· To perform design calculations/simulations and prototype as required in order to estimate performance, reliability and the identification/elimination of high-risk areas ensuring robust (high quality) designs requiring minimal re-design.

· Good knowledge of signal integrity aspects of PCBs including proper grounding, cross talk, current density / thermal design.

· Highly motivated and self-driven with good communication skills.

· Excellent written skills, able to work to specifications, request additional information where specification unclear and write clear reports on designs to enable assembly and test.

· Complete PCB design process from assisting with the requirements and mechanical definition, PCB stackup design, symbol and footprint creation to IPC standards, supporting schematic entry through to PCB layout and fabrication.

· To ensure deliverables are to the agreed quality, specification and timescales including adherence to the industry standards

· Support attainment of on-time delivery, cost and quality targets on projects.

Good PC skills.

· Good knowledge of design for manufacture principles in PCB design and ability to respond to manufacturing requests.

Desirable

Previous experience of working with motor controls and DC to DC converters.

Knowledge of key motor control methodologies, such as FOC and related.
